You need defensive skills. Most of the time, I only have a few attack skills, and sometimes only 1 in my build. Someone mentioned it, but the 75% block skills are really underrated. I would think benetti's would work wonders with a W/E. You can spam spells, go engage, and then refill your energy real quick.

Don't overlook the tactic's line. You don't need many pts into the ability to make use of the skills either. There's no way you should be the first one dropping in a group as a warrior.

And with near maxed strength and sword, you should be doing plenty of damage just attacking normally after you throw out a nuke.

In PVE, defense on a warrior is fine. In PVP, if your warrior has self-defense skills, your plain useless.

Syffery's post makes me want to VOMIT!!! Change his secondary profession to monk!?! Look, just cos people like you can't last 10 minutes out there without healing yourselves constantly, doesn't mean we all have to be so ignorant as to have to be a Whatever/Monk. Save your advice for yourself. Warrios have a self heal anyway, it doesn't even require energy like MONK heals do. Research a bit before you make such stupid comments.

I play a W/E and I LOVE it. You get the strength of a warrior, but because you can cast Area Attack spells, it makes life more easier. I use my healing signet and endure pain at the moment to buff myself over 700 HP. I haven't even got 80 armor yet, it's mostly 71 or 65 still.

Sounds to me like you might just have accidently picked skills and armor that allow you to take that sort of damage, or deffinately there's a bug.
I use Ascalon armor in part because of the reduced dmg from attack extra, a minor vigor rune on my Gladiator skirt for that same extra, and a major absorbtion on my Gladiator chest piece. I choose Gladiator because it gives me more energy for my damage spells.

Well ward of melee is good all around. Placement is just different in pve/pvp.

In pve stuff like armor of earth and one of the wards will keep you alive very efficiently and help your team too.

Warriors in pve should be concerned with taking all the damage for the team so the monks have an easier job of healing. Opposite of pvp of course.

You shouldn't do really. Not particularly sure how you did this course to Elona Reach. If you're talking about Dunes of Despair then I can easily understand, there are chokepoints there which are not possible to just skirt around.

Although nothing here is being done wrong by you per-se, it is a step up in pace and comes as a shock to a lot of people. I had to learn how to dodge projectiles after a while...because they killed me in 1 hit. I find the battles in the crystal desert to be a LOT easier with henchmen than with real people, perhaps this'll work for you as well. Henchmen don't run in and pull additional creatures, nor do they get bored and leave because you're killing the creatures slowly and in a conservative fashion.

Course...it'd be a whole lot easier just to get a guild. Thats really what you want to pass. I'd never have even gotten to Dunes of Despair without a guild-mate.

W/E build listings here at the main website are quite damn good I should say.

I created a modified W/N that works damn well in both pve and pvp, though the build changes with pve being mob bomber and pvp being a conditions machine...

What's wrong with self heals? [VICTORY IS MINE OWNS YOU]

I can't count how many times this skill saved my arse. I will admit, the tactics, water, earth warrior is more unkillable than I am but in terms of killing, I'm pretty damn sure I can do better...

disrupting chop
dismember
axe rake
sprint
victory is mine!
enfeeble
rend enchantments
plague touch

Since pvp LOVES condition spreading, in a bunch of people flailing at random at times, I can cast enfeeble 3 times, dismember+axe rake some poor shmuck, then victory is mine to reset the enfeeble timers on 3 more people...

A bunch of people walking around with weakness REALLY takes a load off of your monk. And yes, it does affect casters too. [if they have weakness YOUR victory is mine still kicks in and what's more, they have to deal with removing the condition if needed to stop you from using this godlike elite]

total stats with runes

12 axe mastery
10 tactics
10 curses
8 str

[the tactics was needed for the Canthan Targe but from the stats I recieve from it with these numbers, I'm damn glad I did. That and I get 149 hp with 3 conditions and 15 energy added as well. ViM owns]

The point is, a W/E should be able to deal a LOT of damage in rapid bursts WITH a self heal. No reason not to have one and ViM is the best self heal a good warrior can use.

Thanks so much everyone.

I've got some Earth Magic skills ready, and I'm doing great so far. Norbix, your build really helped me out. I don't have all the skills you do, so I substituted a few for now.

But I have a few questions:

1. Where can I get "Victory Is Mine"?
2. Is Riposte/Deadly Riposte any good?
3. Is there any way I can get more attribute points after reaching level 20?

this game was fun until the desert. now you need to be ungodly good at this game to do anything. and having to avoid people between towns being the prefered way of movement is stupid

i go with various PuG groups to try and get to Dunes for example...died about 100x, take a hench group, actually get farther, but still cant kill 4, cout 'em, four badies on the other side of the last teleport...

game went from fun to frustratingly hard in 2 levels...

Well you did purchase an MMO whose selling point was that skill was more important than time spent playing.

One of the problems with skill-centric games is that they don't constantly reward you simply for playing - you actually have to skillfully accomplish something to get anywhere. The other problem is when the game is teamwork-centric, since that deepens the gameplay even more by requiring not just you but other players in your party to be skilled too.

Back on topic, W/E's are very viable and perfectly good PVE tanks. However Warriors simply do not have the energy pool to make it worthwhile to put points into Elementalist magic for damage output. Stick with their utility spells (and there's quite a few of them!) Earth Magic is the highest concentration of stuff that would be worthwhile to a Warrior, but there's also stuff in other attributes too (Gale is probably pretty nice for a Warrior to use in PVP.)

well i'd like to think that i was doing rather well in the game, rarely died and do some pretty good damage

but then i got to the desert and its a whole different game

A few things I see that should help you enjoy your W/E a lot more. First, the more DPS (damage) a class has, the less defensive they are. So unless you have a healer you need to try and "not" be the main target of whatever you're fighting.

With your build, I would drop Air and go water (conjour frost) or fire (conjour flame) both will add 11 damage to every swing. Of course since you have the "Fiery" Dragon Sword I would go conjour flame.

Next, weapons do 100% rated damage at "12" of skill level. So since your not yet at 200 skill points I would go 12- Sword 10- Strength Rest- Fire.

Now that your build is correct, don't waste space on your bar with anything defensive. Sprint and Endure Pain is about all you need for defense. The other skills look good and "IF" you're not the main target "frenzy" is a great skill. Don't use it if you're being hit though.

My current weapon is Icy Brute Sword of Enchantment. 15-22 +20% Damage +18% Damage while enchanted (conjour frost is enchantment) +Enchantments last 17% longer. This weapon isn't uber.. but fits the build well. Try and find a weapon that fits your build.

PvE
I cast conjour frost, target something targeting my henchman tank and go to town on it. When I use all henchman, I mainly use my character to block the mobs from getting to the healer. If you just stand in their path and hit them they will target something else or you.

PvP
I drop sprint for hamstring. I use conjour frost then I hamstring the first warrior I see then procceed to attack the called target. If I see a warrior chasing our monk I hamstring them and go back to killing the called target.

Couple other pointers, always attack from the back does more damage. And don't run away use strafe or walk backwards (unless you use sprint) running makes you take critical hits on every hit.

Well again, because gameplay is skill- and teamwork-centric, you have to be sure that (a) you're skilled and then (b) you're teaming with decent teammates. (B) is usually where the problems start to occur, as there's no real way of telling how skilled or communicative your teammates will be.

Still, you should constantly be examining your PVE builds to ensure they're adapted to the situation. After you fail a mission, stop to examine why you failed and what types of counters you have to the enemy's tactics. Identify which skill(s) the enemy uses, the method it attacks, and the number of enemies. For skills, you can equip counterskills (interrupts vs. long cast skills, remove hex/condition spells vs. hex/cond, etc). For attack method, you can equip appropriate counters too (Shielding Hands vs. low-damage-high-attackrate attackers, Backfire vs. spellcasters, Ward Against Elements/Melee). The number of enemies is important because certain attack types work better (Gale and single target Weaken/Blind/etc vs. less numerous opponents; AOE spells for when you face 4+ opponents simultaneously.)

If you're good, you probably know all that already. But hopefully that advice helps less skilled players to adapt their build appropraitely.

Well, I ascended, and got to Droknar's today, thanks to all your help everyone. But there's one thing that's still bothering me. I bought the 80 armor Knight's Armor, with the Stonefist Gauntlets (75 I believe), and I still have my same sword and shield. I'm helping out my friends with the game, and so I was trying to get them to Aurora Glade. I can't even get there now. I have 530 HP, a nearly full suit of 80 armor, and these Thorn Stalkers are still doing 129 damage per Stoning!!! I'm beginning to think this is a glitch, because I used to easily be able to get to Aurora Glade. But now, even though I'm a higher level than I was, I can't do it!!!

Mr. Niceguy, it's very easy to get bad groups for these missions. You should definitely be using some defensive skills. But having a good monk on the team (or 2) is also important. These missions are not easy (well with the right group they can be).

It's probably the team, I mean, I'm a mesmer.. I can't do these things by myself.
it's easy to see if I have a proper team or not

Hydra's and Thorn stalkers.. are NO match for Mesmers with Backfire, like myself, they just cast themselves to death. Not all profession combo's are good vs all opponents, that's why you need the teamwork.
Don't think your professions are crap, W/E is a real nice combo I've seen quite a few players with it and it's defenitly one of my faves.

Okay, I'm beginning to think this is some sort of bug. We decided to fight our way to Aurora Glade. Let me tell you our story.

Well, we come to our first group of Thorn Stalkers. I run ahead, get pounded by Stoning for 129 damage a hit, as usual. We kill them, my teammates take VERY little damage. We come up to the next group. I tell my friend (A level 17 Warrior/Monk with the Wyvern armor from Ventari's Refuge) to go first and take some hits to see what he gets. He tells me that he takes 39 damage from the Stoning... Are you getting it yet? Well, we kill them, and find the next group. We start fighting, but this time I only take 31 damage from Stoning! SAVED I thought... Wrong. The Stalker casts Whirlwind which causes 122 damage!!!

There's something wrong with this picture. Is this a bug or what? Do you think I need to report it? It's seriously preventing me from doing what I should easily be able to do...

You weren't using Healing Signet when you got hit by the Stoning/Whirlwind by any chance, do you? Or Frenzy for that matter?

Nope, I even made sure I wasn't. I don't even have Frenzy in my skill bar anyway. The only skills I was using were Power Attack, Sprint, Watch Yourself, and Armor of Earth (not all at the same time of course).

Try getting hit with no armor (=naked) & then compare to when you have armor, so far it sounds like a (really) nasty bug.
Also I cant remmember but some mobs start using the atribute enhancing signet (+2 to next elemental spell) around Aurora & previous maps (think I have seen stalkers use them).
